Project

UT Hog Creek Bank Stabilization

Location

Brandon, Mississippi

Project Information

The bank stabilization project for an upstream tributary of Hog Creek near Amanda Drive focused on enhancing hydraulic capacity and long-term stability while minimizing environmental impacts. The 650-foot reach underwent clearing to remove damaged vegetation and fallen trees, followed by excavation to regrade the slopes from the existing steep 1.5:1 to a more stable 3:1 ratio. To balance functionality with environmental sensitivity, the design utilized concrete block erosion control mats for slope stabilization. These mats were chosen over traditional riprap to reduce mitigation costs, provide a lower-profile solution, and minimize disturbance to the surrounding area while ensuring durability. Rock was strategically placed near upstream and downstream roadway conveyance structures to reinforce areas prone to higher flow velocities.

Project responsibilities included preparing construction specifications, cost estimates, drafting bidding contracts and documents, managing the bidding process, and providing Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) services to ensure quality and compliance during all phases of the project.
